Facebook is well-known for its "like" button, but what about a "want" button?
As noted by AllFacebook.com, developer Tom Waddington located some code within the Facebook Javascript SDK that pointed to the development of a "want" button.
It appears that the option is still in the early planning stages, though. "Currently, publishing want actions is disabled, though the button does render," Waddington wrote on his blog.
When asked about the feature, a Facebook spokeswoman said "we're always testing new Platform features, however we have nothing new to announce."
According to The Los Angeles Times, the button looks like Facebook's Like button and all its other buttons, in that it has blue wording on top of a light blue bubble, but it also includes an icon with a plus button, based on the one on Waddington's website.
If a user clicks on it now, it'll say the user’s name followed by "wants this." However, it'll also give the user a very red "Error" message, the paper said.
A Want button is also predicted be helpful for Facebook in as it could allow the social network to differentiate between what a user would ‘like’, which could be both items he/she already have as well as those they are looking to get. However, the button does not show up among Facebook's listed buttons.
The Button would likely be helpful for Facebook's ad partners. Add a product to your Facebook wishlist and the company that produces it could serve up discounts - or just keep tabs on interest.
