On Twitter, the popularity of a tweet doesn’t just depend on its contents -- when you post it also matters. A May 2012 study conducted by link-shortening service Bitly found that links tweeted Monday through Thursday between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. ET are more likely to be clicked on than links tweeted at other times.
Using third-party applications to automate your tweets allows you to polish the message you want to send and make sure it’s published at the time you choose. Some of the most popular applications for scheduling tweets are HootSuite, SocialOomph and TweetDeck, which is owned by Twitter. All three apps allow basic tweet scheduling for free, and HootSuite and SocialOomph also offer additional features for premium users.
